(Republican Party News) – There’s a good chance former president Barack Obama is one of the men behind the curtain of the Biden regime but Obama can’t resist the spotlight. He gave a big speech last week in which he pushed the left’s radical agenda and called for more censorship.
You know, just more divisive rhetoric from the king of divisive rhetoric.
In his speech, delivered at Stanford University, he described himself as “pretty close to a First Amendment absolutist” but then proceeded to explain all the ways he thinks Big Tech needs to censor Americans even more.
He insisted that social media platforms go further to reduce what he calls “disinformation.” Of course, by “disinformation” we know he, and his fellow leftists, are referring to political thoughts and opinions they don’t like.
During the speech, he said he has spent “months” apparently studying the issue of free speech online and has come to the conclusion that in order to support free speech, we need more censorship.
“The First Amendment is a check on the power of the state,” he said. “It doesn’t apply to private companies like Facebook and Twitter,” and called for more “value judgments” on content moderation.
“While content moderation can limit the distribution of clearly dangerous content, it doesn’t go far enough,” Obama noted.
Clearly Obama has a fundamental misunderstanding of free speech but so does the entire Democratic party.
“Over time we lose our capacity to distinguish between fact, opinion and wholesale fiction. Or maybe we just stop caring,” he said. Or maybe he just doesn’t want Americans to have any other opinions other than the ones he holds.
He went on to whine that Americans are just bombarded with too much information, too fast.
“Our brains aren’t accustomed to taking in this much information this fast, and a lot of us are experiencing overload,” he said.
He then warned that dangerous people are using social media to distract the public and he’s certainly right about that but he and his fellow radical leftists would be the ones guilty of this tactic.
Instead, Obama pointed the finger at Vladimir Putin and Steve Bannon.
“People like Putin and Steve Bannon for that matter understand it’s not necessary for people to believe disinformation in order to weaken democratic institutions – you just have to flood the public square with enough raw sewage,” he asserted.
He went on to state there was just no way for Americans to distinguish between “a peer-reviewed article by Dr. Anthony Fauci and a miracle cure pitched by a huckster.”
He blamed all the content online concerning COVID and the vaccines as the reason why many Americans refused to get the shot. Apparently, Obama thinks Americans are just too stupid to know what’s good for them.
“People are dying because of misinformation,” he said.
Yes, misinformation from Big Pharma and the radical left’s media establishment, that is.
Obama noted that there is already content moderation by Big Tech companies but that there needed to be more of it. He went on to lay out a set of “principles” for how social media companies themselves or a government entity (which would directly violate the First Amendment) should evaluate content:
-Whether it strengthens or weakens the prospects for a healthy inclusive democracy.
-Whether it encourages robust debate and respect for our differences.
-Whether it reinforces rule of law and self-governance.
-Whether it helps us make collective decisions based on the best available information.
-Whether it recognizes the rights and freedoms and dignity of all of our citizens.
“Regulation has to be part of the answer,” Obama insisted, calling for ways to start “slowing the spread of harmful content” online.
Obama couldn’t help himself and just had to throw President Trump into his speech, saying how he believed prior to 2016 when Trump won, the public could still distinguish fact from fiction on social media.
“What does still nag at me was my failure to fully appreciate at the time just how susceptible we had become to lies and conspiracy theories,” he said. Like the ones hatched by his own party? Russia-collusion, anyone?
Fortunately, it’s not Obama who gets to decide whose opinions are allowed to be expressed in America, the Constitution does.
What Obama is advocating for is a communist, police state like China. His ideas are anti-American and anti-democracy. Fortunately, with Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter, it looks like just maybe the tide might be changing.
